Horizon 2020 is the European Commission programme for financing European research and innovation projects. The goal is to ensure Europe continues to produce world-class science projects.

In 2014 Horizon 2020 started with a budget of €80 billion for the next seven years, to invest in innovative projects. The programme aims to invest in our future, in sustainable and inclusive growth, and jobs. To achieve this, Horizon 2020 couples research and innovation with its emphasis on industrial leadership, excellent science and tackling societal challenges. The goal is to ensure that Europe produces world-class science, removes barriers to innovation and makes it easier for the public and private sectors to work together in delivering innovation.
